Knowing the land you’re on is a critical part of caring for and enjoying a place. Before you explore, make sure you do so responsibly.

Before getting out to the Carbon, make sure you plan ahead for a safe and responsible trip.

Before you go:

  • Check the weather specific to your destination.

  • Check road conditions.

  • Download offline maps to use when you lose cell phone service.

  • Prepare to have no cell phone service.

  • Ensure you have the correct passes and permits for your trips.

  • Know who the property manager for your destination is, as well as what other properties you may travel through.

  • Last restrooms are in the Town of Wilkeson. There may be facilitates depending on what your recreation destination is.

During your trip:

  • Get to know the land you’re on — stop at local businesses and learn the history.

  • Ensure you are parking in the appropriate area for your destination.

  • Know who owns the land you’re recreating on (which agency) to confirm the activity you are doing is permitted.

  • There are dangerous hazards in this region related to the area’s mining history. Stay on land designated as public.
